An assembly all about the impact that random acts of kindness can have. It explores why we need to be kind to each other, the effect small acts can have on our family, friends and the wider communities and in turn our own emotional wellbeing. The assembly lasts around 20 minutes, including a short clip. As part of the assembly you will need to place three Post-Its randomly where the children will sit. You will be calling those three students who sit on a Post-It up to give them a small gift (perhaps a tube of Smarties).You will then ask them questions about how they feel - this is to show the impact of an act of kindness when people aren’t expecting it (which scientists have shown to have more impact than if they are). The assembly is very easy to follow (and has additional teacher notes in the slide-notes of the PowerPoint). It is also editable. An assembly all about whether or not we live in a truly equal country. The assembly reflects on women’s and LGBT+ rights, racism, black lives matter, and finally focuses on income inequality - and how and why this is rising. The message of the assembly is that although the UK has improved so much in the last fifty years, we cannot take it for granted that we live in a country of equal opportunities, which is why we need to develop our skills of resilience, perseverance and determination to succeed more than ever. It lasts around 20 mins (inc clips). The assembly includes animations, statistics, dialogue between characters and a little humour. An assembly all about turning over a new leaf and being ambitious and changing your attitude. There is a big focus on working hard and how you can change your mindset to be more positive at any time. It lasts about 15 -20 minutes if clips are watched and questions asked too. The assembly uses the story of how Jay-Z escaped a tough childhood and gangs by working incredibly hard and throwing himself into writing and music. It follows Shawn (the young Jay-Z - hopefully students won’t recognise who the assembly is about until the end) as he grows up as a troubled boy in Brooklyn, through the departure of his father, his grades slipping at school and how he eventually reached a crossroads. With encouragement from his mother, young Shawn decided to change his attitude and make a fresh start. The assembly emphasises the importance of hard work, staying positive and taking the opportunity presented by making a fresh start in life - which can be especially related to at the beginning of a school term. There are optional clips to watch throughout and teacher notes (in the slide notes of the PowerPoint) with suggested questions that can be posed at each point and ideas to reflect on.
